Monthly Club News

December 2016: We started the month with us again making significant progress with our Smallwood layout with a start being made on the remaining buildings that are required for the layout.

November 2016: We started the month with making significant progress with our Smallwood layout. All of the track is now laid apart from one siding and work is progressing well on the buildings. Thursday 10th November saw the last of the track laid on our Smallwood layout. We had an enjoyable weekend at the Warley Model Railway Exhibition over the weekend of the 26th and 27th November with our display stand. This year we incorporated our Barrie Island into the display which was very well received by the visitors.

October 2016: We started the month preparing Dagnell End for the Great Electric Train Show and took the layout to the show over the weekend of the 8th and 9th October where it was very well received. After many weeks of preparing this was the first time we had used the Z21 DCC system. We have made allot of progress this month with our Smallwood layout. 

September 2016: With our annual exhibition this month we are putting the finishing touches to that show and preparing Dagnell End for its outing in October to the Great Electric Train Show. Work has continued the construction of buildings on our Smallwood layout. We have been testing the Z21 DCC system which we plan to use on our DCC operated layouts. We staged the 42nd Redditch Model Railway Exhibition over the weekend of the 17th and 18th September and thank you to all that attended

August 2016: Work has continued once again on installing the point motors and the construction of buildings on our Smallwood layout. We have decided to modify the town area on our Smallwood layout to allow more buildings (all of which will be scratch built) to be accommodated. We have also started experimenting with the layout back scenes to get the proportions of them to work with planned lighting unit.

July 2016: This website is now 17 years old. We start the month with a rebuilding of our Barrie Island club test track to add more track and operating potential and adding detail to the scrap car yard scene on our Smallwood layout. Started in late June 2016 we completed the rebuilding of our Barrie Island club test track. It now features three circuits instead of two and can operate in either analogue or DCC control mode or a mixture of the to at the same time.  Work has also continued installing the point motors on our Smallwood layout.

June 2016: Wednesday 1st June 2016 marked the 49th anniversary of the formation of the Redditch Model Railway Club. On the evening of Thursday 1st June 1967 a meeting was held at the White Hart Public House in Headless Cross in Redditch which resulted in the Redditch Model Railway Club being formed. The Club's Annual General Meeting on Tuesday 5th June once again provided few surprises and the Committee where re-elected apart from John Harris who stood down on health grounds. Buchanan McInroy was elected as the replacement Vice Chairman.

May 2016: Work continues on our Smallwood layout with more track laid and ballasted. By the end of the month virtually all of the track on the lower level had been ballasted, The parcel shed is nearing competition.

April 2016: during the first week of April we finished wiring all of the track we have thus far laid on Smallwood including the three way points and the micro switches need to control the power to them. We had a successful weekend over the 16th and 17th April at the Severn Valley Railway exhibiting our Arrowmouth layout.

March 2016: We started this month with more work on our Arrowmouth and Smallwood layouts. We are continuing the scenic improvements to Arrowmouth and have now tested trains on our Smallwood layout to prove it works. As a result we have started fitting a number of the retaining walls and buildings more permanently on the layout.

February 2016: We start this month with more work on our Arrowmouth and Smallwood layouts. We are continuing the scenic improvements to Arrowmouth and laying some more track on Smallwood together with adding detail to the overall roof that has been made for Smallwood station. We have also started fitting the point motors on Smallwood.

January 2016: We start 2016 with work continuing on our Smallwood layout with work on the track and some of the buildings. We have also start to look at freshening up our Arrowmouth layout ready for the planned exhibition appearances this year.
