Saltley TMD - Locomotives named after Saltley depot

Two Class 47 diesel locomotives were named after Saltley Depot during their careers. Although neither locomotive was actually allocated to Saltley, both became closely associated with the depot and would regularly visit during their operational lives.

47326 Saltley Depot Quality Approved

The first Class 47 to be named after the depot was 47326 which was used on the freight traffic run from the depot. It was named 'Saltley Depot Quality Approved at Saltley TMD by Mick Merrill, a depot fitter; and John Partington, a driver on  Friday 9th December 1994. The nameplates removed at Crewe Diesel during 2000. 

47839 Pride of Saltley

The second Class 47 to be named after the depot was 47839 'Pride of Saltley' which was named at the depot on at Saltley TMD February 6th 2002 by Bob Snelson, EWS team leader at Saltley and Ron Bailes, Virgin Trains Regional Operations Manager. The nameplates lasted less than 10 months on the locomotive and were removed in in December 2002.
