Who We Are

INFORMATION BAR just hover your mouse to find out more
The Redditch Model Railway Club was formed on Thursday 1st June 1967 when a group of like minded railway modelers got together at the White Hart Public House in Headless Cross in Redditch. The Club is based in the town of Redditch in Worcestershire, England. The town has a population of 77,000 and is some 15 miles south of Birmingham.
The Redditch Model Railway Club meets in a unit which part of this  much larger industrial unit (shown in the picture) on a factory estate in Redditch on Tuesdays and Thursday evenings from 1845 until 2230. Whilst the building is rather uninspiring to look at it does provide the club with the space and facilities we need to function. Members’ model railway interests range from the pre grouping to the present day contemporary scene. Unlike some model railway clubs we are not just a talking shop and actually build and exhibit exhibition layouts. If you join us you will find a friendly group who are only too happy to pass on our enthusiasm for model railways. Membership is open to anyone over the age of 16 - conditions set by our landlord don't allow children in our club room. (H&S regulations for industrial premises)

Our current membership rate is £40 per year

(we have kept this cost down to one single rate to make it fair that every member contributes the same).

The Club Committee is made up of the following members:

Mick Clements - Club President

John Gillard - Chairman

John Harris - Vice Chairman
Guy Craddock - Secretary & Exhibition Manager
Mick Clements - Treasurer - a post he has held since the formation of the Club
Melvyn Crump - Member Representative

Club members are working on the following projects:

  • The construction of model buildings that form part of our new 4mm Southern Region exhibition layout called Dagnell End. This will be based in suburban London in the 1960’s and will feature not only a two-track Southern Region main line but also a working underground line along the front of the layout. The Club plans to experiment with digital control as this layout is constructed.

  • As part of the experimenting with DCC operation a small compact test bead layout call Picheroak Sidings is currently being constructed ahead of the wiring work on Dagnell End

  • Continual improvements to our existing Arrowmouth, Chilcompton and Gorcott exhibition layouts

  • Initial construction work on a new 7mm scale layout which will be based on London Midland Region practice set around 1960 in the Birmingham area. This layout will feature DCC control.

We have hired the GWR Saloon on the SVR on a number of occasions

As well as the construction and exhibition of layouts the Club organizes trips for members to some of larger model railway exhibitions around the country and to heritage steam railways. In May 2000 a number of Club Members visited Didcot and Pendon Museums for the year 2000 celebrations.

The club has hired this former Great Western Railway Inspection Saloon on the Severn Valley Railway on a number of occasions. The Club hired the saloon again on Saturday 1st June 2002, 35 years to the day since the formation of the Club to mark this significant milestone.

For the 40th Anniversary celebrations in 2007 the Club elected our Treasurer, Mick Clements, Club president. This was to mark the fact that he had been Club Treasurer since the founding of the Club in 1967.

During 2007 we had two 40th Anniversary cakes produced on for each of our model railway exhibitions. We also produced a limited edition mug to commemorate the anniversary.

The Club outing for 2007 was a ride behind former GWR Hall class locomotive 4965 Rood Ashton Hall on the Shakespeare express between Birmingham and Stratford upon Avon

Unfortunately I have had to remove the direct email link on my webpage due to a large number of 'spammers' and internet crawlers picking up on it, resulting in a colossal amount of junk email each day! Therefore the email address above will need to be typed in, so apologies for the removal of a direct link.
